Locks are the primary form of security for both doors and windows. They are the barrier that keeps your property closed off, allowing only those with the right key to open it. When your locks are in your control, you feel safe and secure, because you know that you are the only one with access to the things you care about. When you somehow lose that feeling of security and your locks no longer feel in your control, you may need a lock change or a rekey.
What Causes a Loss of Security?
Your lock is only useful if you feel completely secure. When locks break down, or too many people have been handling your keys, or you have experienced a break in, it’s easy to lose that feeling of security knowing that someone else may have access to your property. As a well-known Ottawa Locksmith notes: “You need to know that you are the only one in control of your keys, otherwise the keys won’t help you feel safe.”
When you lose that feeling of security, you have two options: Rekeying, and a complete lock change. Both of which can be easily provided by a reputable locksmith.
- Rekeying – Rekeying is a great choice when someone has control of your key and you no longer want to allow them access to your home. It may be an acquaintance you lost touch with or a tenant you want to keep out of your complex – or if you simply are concerned your key has been handled by too many people for too long. Rekeying is best when you have a working lock in place but want to make sure that anyone with access to your current key can no longer use it.
- Lock Change – Lock change is a good choice when you want to upgrade your security system, or your lock is broken, or you have recently suffered from a break-in. Lock changes are slightly more expensive, but useful when you are concerned about your security.
